RYANA PARKS-SHAW
BUILDING A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR KANSAS CITY
Mayor Pro Tem Ryana Parks-Shaw represents the 5th City Council District of Kansas City, where she has been a resident for her entire life and raised her family. Appointed by Mayor Quinton Lucas as Mayor Pro Tem in August 2023, she also chairs the Neighborhood Planning and Development Committee, leads the Land Bank Board of Commissioners, and serves on the Economic Development Corporation Board, the Kansas City Zoo Board of Directors, and the Starlight Board of Directors.
With a background as a longtime healthcare executive, Mrs. Parks-Shaw holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Missouri State University and a Master of Science degree from Southwest Baptist University. She is a proud alumna of Ruskin High School in the Hickman Mills School District. Her commitment to community service is fueled by her memberships in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the Links, Incorporated.
Mrs. Parks-Shaw has chaired the Mayor’s Houseless Task Force, served as Vice-Chair of the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Commission, and Co-Chaired the Health Commission during her first term. Her dedication to improving Kansas City extends to her involvement in St. James United Methodist Church, where she has been a member for over 35 years.
Outside of her public service, Mrs. Parks-Shaw is recognized as a caring parent, successful small business owner, and experienced leader. She advocates strongly for her constituents as a former union member.
